Founder of Dilmah, Merrill J. Fernando, declared his commitment to tea when in the 1950s he devoted his life to tea. Four decades later he was joined by his two sons, Dilhan and Malik (after whom he named his Dilmah Tea) who share his passion. Today, nearly sixty years on, Merrill and his sons – the Fernando family – have acquired the expertise to grow tea, pack and offer consumers around the world only the finest. Their love for tea clearly transcends generations for Dilhan and Malik’s sons and daughters are learning tea, preparing for a time when they assume responsibility for the covenant that Merrill made, when in the 1950s he declared that he would devote his life to bringing quality back to tea, ethically.

Toyota

The company was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937 as a spinoff from his father’s company Toyota Industries to create automobiles. Three years earlier, in 1934, while still a department of Toyota Industries, it created its first product, the Type A engine, and, in 1936, its first passenger car, the Toyota AA. Peugoet
Peugeot is a major French car brand, part of PSA Peugeot Citroën, the second largest car maker based in Europe.
The family business that precedes the current Peugeot company was founded in 1810, and manufactured coffee mills and bicycles. On 20 November 1858, Emile Peugeot applied for the lion trademark. The company produced its first automobile in 1891. Due to family discord, Armand Peugeot in 1896 founded the Société des Automobiles Peugeot. The Peugeot company and family is originally from Sochaux, France. Peugeot retains a large manufacturing plant and Peugeot Museum there. It also sponsors the Sochaux football club, founded in 1928 by a member of the Peugeot family.
Jetwing
The saga of Jetwing is one of classic entrepreneurship. Set up by Herbert Cooray, who dared to dream big, Jetwing has since grown into one of the recognised and respected business entities in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Jetwing is working on many new property developments. Jetwing Vil Uyana was opened in 2006 with 25 Villas built in an artificially created wetland. Jetwing Hotels have journeyed from beaches to creating nature reserves in the span of a few decades. Since its inception, Jetwing has remained attentive and receptive to clients and business opportunities alike.
Jetwing Travels also has an Outbound Division which has IATA accreditation and does ticketing as well as organising packaged holidays for discerning Sri Lankan travellers. Herbert cooray is no more but the Jetwing legacy has passed on to his daughter, Shiromal Cooray, who now is the Managing Director of Jetwing Travels, and his son, Hiran Cooray, who functions as the Chairman of Jetwing – both of whom are ensuring that the Jetwing brand scales new heights each day.
